ALLEN, WILLIAM A "BILL," 88 of LaGrange, KY, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009 at his residence.
Bill was born February 16, 1921 in Henry Co., KY, to James Henry and Ethel Priest Allen and moved to a farm in Oldham County when he was six months old. After graduating from LaGrange High School, he served four years in the Navy in World War II. After his discharge from the Navy he came back to the family farm and lived there for the remainder of his life. He retired from the Ford Truck Plant.
He married the former Mary Frances Goodlet of Crestwood, KY, on December 23, 1950 at Crestwood Baptist Church. He attended the LaGrange Christian Church for 87 years and was a member for 74 years.
He was a deacon for 45 years and in 1996 was named Deacon Emeritus.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Henry Allen and Ethel Priest Allen and a brother, Elden Ray Allen.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Frances; two nephews and a beloved friend Baby Shaun.
A celebration of his wonderful life will be held at Oldham County Funeral Home, 706 W. Jefferson St., LaGrange, at 11 a.m. Tuesday with burial to follow in the Louisville Memorial Gardens East Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday.
