TIPPS, DR. WILLIAM ROLAND 84, reached the end of a useful and satisfying life on Saturday, April 23, 2011.
He was born in Gunn Hollow outside of Huntland, TN, on July 3, 1926 and raised in Winchester, TN.
The greatest pleasure in his life was to do one-on-one teaching about the Bible so that others might learn about God and His love for us. He served forty years as a deacon and Bible class teacher for Expressway Church of Christ and preached for 15 years for small congregations in central Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
The abiding love of his life was Chiropractic which he happily practiced for forty-five years. He was a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and a member of the Kentucky Chiropractic Association. He also had a degree in massage therapy. His affection for his patients was well known and he gave the best of himself each day in his office. He was one of the original doctors who worked with the Kentuckiana Childrens Center when it opened in 1957.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a seaman first class. Most of his time in that service was spent on an LST with the last six months served in occupied Japan.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and stepfather, Jessie Tipps Rogers, James Roy Tipps and Lloyd Rogers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia; four children, Leanne Bowles (Allen), Shanna Haygood (Greg), Troy R. Tipps (Marie), and Bethany Bingham (Jon), brothers, Roy Tipps (Edna) and Lloyd (Linda) and Lanson (Sue) Rogers; sister, Nancy Coleman (Phillip); grandchildren, Brandon (Emily) and Parker Bowles, Emily Meade (Justin), Jason, Amanda and Candice Haygood, Joshua, Anthony and Evan Tipps and Morgan, Ethan, Reagan, Autumn and Celia Bingham; and two great-grandchildren.
Roland's life exemplified his faith in God and his love for his fellow man. Into God's hands we commend his spirit. Each time we embrace a memory, we meet again with those we love, for the heart never forgets.
