WOODS, WILLIAM "ART" "RED" SR., 85, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. He retired from the Louisville Varnish Company after 34 years. He was a proud veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army artillery during the Battle of the Bulge at Bastogne. Art was a member of Guardian Angels Church, their "Over 50 Club" and also coached their 1965 baseball team to the CSAA city championship. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Tiny" Wahl Woods; his children, Rusty Woods (Rita), Betty Weber (Dr. Mark), Doug Woods and Donna Woods; nine grandchildren, Ben, Chris (Lael), Amy (Dean), Melissa (Jeremy), Matthew, Nathan, Eric, Christopher and Lynn (Mike); three great-grandchildren, Payton, Colleen, and Braden; brothers, Charles E. and Thomas G. Woods; sisters, Jeanette Fulkerson and Mary Rose Fante. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Norman and Bobby. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angels Church, 6000 Preston Highway, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens, East. Visitation is noon-8 p.m. Sunday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Memorial gifts may be made to the WHAS Crusade for Children or to the donor's favorite charity.
