CHERWAK, JACK W., 83, of Louisville, passed away July 18, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. Born in Ashland, KY, he retired after 40 years as production supervisor at BF Goodrich Chemical Company. Jack was a long time parishioner and tireless volunteer at the former St. Polycarp Catholic Church. He was a Navy Veteran and member of the Knights of Columbus MSGR. Newman Council #4665. Jack was a member of the L&N Credit Union for 22 years and served in many volunteer capacities including chairman of the supervisory committee and board of Directors Vice Chairman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melva Lee (Deely) and his brothers, Ludy J. and Richard H. Cherwak. He is survived by his daughter, Judith Lee Vance; grandchildren, Helena and Wesley Vance; his brother, James Cherwak (Mary Jane); and his close companion, Dana Johnson. His Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 6901 Dixie Highway, with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens, West. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Sunday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or to Hosparus of Louisville.
